SO MANY THINGS went down in 1952 in terms of arts development, music education, culture management, and national identity issues in Indonesia. My hand-drawn historical timeline has all these microscopic scribbles on that particular year. Also, Indonesia had SO MANY professional symphony orchestras that rose and fell during the first half of the 20th century; one got terminated because the Dutch had to finally leave in 1950. Oh and, this man of my music thesis, Amir Pasaribu, had met Messiaen and Boulez. Mindblown.
– Every time I read these books I could come up with so many more thesis topics… it’s exciting and terrifying at the same time. #…grad school? :-/
